The Book Bus!
Tue 12 Jul 2016The Book People Mobile Book Bus
On Wednesday 6th and Thursday 7th July we welcomed the fantastic Book Bus from the Book People.
The big red bus arrived at half past 8, full of exciting stories and wonderful gifts for us to buy.
Each class spent time browsing the shelves and seeing if they could find their favorite books.
Parents, families, children and staff grabbed themselves some brilliant bargains and even better books!
Thank you for your support with our Book Bus event, your spending rewarded school with over £100 of new books for our school library!
We look forward to welcoming the Book Bus again in November.

“MOVE ON UP” Transition from Nursery to Reception Class
Wed 15 Jun 2016
“MOVE ON UP”
Transition from Nursery to Reception Class
At St Gregory’s we believe every child should be happy at school and have the chance to fulfil their potential. We also know how important it is for parents to get the support they need to help their child achieve, learn and develop.
There will be a 5 session after school club for families with children who will be joining our Reception Class in September on Thursdays beginning 16th June.
This will be a special time for your family and the evenings promise to be fun.
Sessions are from 3.30pm – 5.30pm and give you and your child the chance to spend quality time together, taking part in a range of fun, educational games and activities – including drawing, singing and making things. You’ll also get to eat a free, home-cooked meal together and meet other families. Your whole family can attend, so there’s no need to worry about childcare.
At the end of the five sessions each family that takes part in “Move On Up” will receive a small hamper of goods, including books and toys, to support their child’s learning and development at home.
Families who have taken part in similar programmes say it has helped improve their relationships with their children, other parents and teachers.
Research shows that participation in this type of school based programme
- helps improve children’s reading, writing and maths
- encourages good behaviour and a positive attitude
- helps parents support their children’s learning at home.
Sessions will be delivered by staff and parent volunteers and will follow the same format each week.
We begin the sessions with a “Move On Up” song and a few table based family games before we sit down to eat. After eating there will be time for parents to sit together (whilst children are playing supervised by staff) and discuss the transition process and all that means for families and children. We will end each session with a group game.

GOLD!
Thu 12 Feb 2015Last Friday, school were visited by Mary Hind-Portley from the Reader Organisation and School Improvement. Mary came to visit our school to see what makes reading so great at St Gregory's.
With so many amazing reading events and activities going on in and around school throughout the year it can be seen that we are a truly remarkable reading school and have been awarded the GOLD Liverpool Reading Quality Mark!
Well done to Miss Green and the Reader Leaders who have been driving us all forward to increase our reading for pleasure, school staff and parents who have given tremendous support with all events and activities and of course the children who have engaged so well with our Reading for Pleasure project. -
"St Gregory's a Shining Example"
Mon 05 Jan 2015At St Gregory's, children staff and parents have been working hard to encourage a love of reading throughout school. Last term was very busy, there have been reading competitions, book clubs and even poetry performances.
We sent home a newsletter to let everybody know how much fun we have been having with our reading quest - our efforts have been recognised as a 'shining example' to other schools by the Liverpool City of Readers.
A HUGE well done to the whole school community for all of your efforts and for your love of reading.
