St Gregory's Catholic Primary School

Book Corner

At St Gregory’s we are encouraging a love of reading. Staff, children and their families will be invited to join in lots of great activities, events and challenges to inspire reading for pleasure.

We will be diving into the wonderful world of books, traveling into the realms of different authors and using our imagination to become lost in the magic of the stories.

In September we celebrated the wonderful world of Roald Dahl. Classes have been exploring some of his brilliant stories including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Esio Trot, George’s Marvellous Medicine and the Revolting Rhymes.

On Friday 20th September children and staff were invited to come into school dressed as their favourite Roald Dahl character or wearing something yellow, Dahl’s favourite colour. This created a real buzz throughout the school. The school community really was taken over by Dahl fever.

Throughout October, children are invited on a Magical Reading Tour to celebrate the 50thanniversary of Ian Fleming’s Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.  Chitty’s engine is running low; children can fuel Chitty’s tank by reading. 10 minutes of reading a day can help get Chitty back on the road and in the air.

This challenge has been set by the National Literacy Trust. All children who successfully complete this challenge and fill the engine with reading will be entered into a competition to win some fantastic prizes.

So what are you waiting for… pick up a book and enjoy this magical reading tour!
